FMCG · Trusted Data Platform
A data mesh that unblocked a stalled transformation.
IT budget saved$550k
Context
A major FMCG enterprise was running digital-transformation projects across many departments — digital marketing, distribution management, procurement, and more. Each department had its own analytics and data tooling, and those tools barely combined for cross-department work.
The problem
- 01Overlapping projects meant the company had to not just support but integrate a sprawl of BI, DWH, and ETL tools.
- 02The CTO scoped the integration project at roughly $900,000 and a full year to deliver.
- 03That estimate became a show-stopper for the entire transformation.
What we did
- 01Separated the data-storage layer from the analytics software using MS Azure Synapse.
- 02Implemented a data mesh architecture, using Apache Hadoop, NiFi, Kafka, and others as the data-delivery layer.
- 03Kept existing data stores in place and built a metadata layer so any visualization tool could reach any dataset.
Results
- 01$550,000 of IT budget saved by splitting the infrastructure layers and avoiding multiple integration points.
- 02Business analysts and department heads kept the data-visualization tools they already knew.
- 03Cross-department analytics was streamlined, and the transformation could proceed on live data.
